Refuel With Chocolate Milk, By Emma Bishop
14th July 2010
It’s been around for years. Many kids grew up with it. Having some pro-athletes as friends you pick up tips and notice stuff, particularly where the word chocolate is concerned. Chocolate Milk seems to be a bit of a thing with some of the team so I looked a little deeper and found a diverse range of endurance athletes that are reaching for a carton of this chocolaty evil – or is it? Surely with so many serious athletes consuming the stuff there must be a reason other than a reward for a hard day of training?
It made me wonder what the big deal is about? Is it purely nutritional, or something that takes them back to their childhood? Is it a reward for being good or is it an ‘affordable’ recovery drink? Or is it actually a touch of all the above? As a self-certified chocoholic I can hand on heart say that I do not have a ‘thing’ for chocolate milk. But as I delved into the archives of cyber-research-space, I realised this phenomenon is by no means a new discovery.
It all makes for some interesting reading. I still prefer chocolate in the solid form and LOTS of it, but maybe now and then I will reach for a chocolate milk to go with my breakfast of banana and weetbix :)
