Mathias Hecht
Mathias will be taking on the iconic Zarausko triathlon this weekend; it is one of the oldest long distance events in Spain. The event takes place in the Basque country of Spain in area famous for being a very fanatic spectators. You only have to watch the Tour de France ride through the region to see that! Mathias has raced here the last two years and loves the event. He feeds off the thousands of spectators with high energy and enjoys the unique course. Like the last two years, this race always attracts some of Spain's and Europe's top long distance triathletes.
This year my main contender will be Eneko Illanos from Spain. Eneko has won this race several times, and he lives part of the year in the town of Zarautz. So it is essential a home race for him. Mathias said, "I really enjoy getting to race Eneko at his best at home. The other top contenders include Stephan Poulat of France and Ramon Ejeda of Spain. All these athletes have an ITU background and lots of speed.
The course should be challenging and will be great for Mathias who is so strong on the bike and run. We are very excitd to watch Mathias back up his great performance finishing 3rd in Texas.
