Results are in from the Tauranga Half Ironman and teamTBB’s new recruit Caroline Steffan made an impressive start to 2010 with a second place finish, whilst Bek Keat had a solid result to finish hot on her heels in third. This year's event was described as “the best field in the event’s 21 year history, with every winner since 2002 competing”.
Australian based Swiss athlete Steffan lead for much of the race powering away in the swim and further consolidating her lead on the bike. She was eventually caught in the final stages of the run missing the win by just 18 seconds. Watch as she goes from strength to strength in 2010!
Keat was 4 minutes down on the leaders off the bike but managed to overpower Jo Lawn on the run in a hard fought race to finish third with the fastest run split of the day in 1.22.48. Kiwi Sam Warriner was the repeat winner
Look out for a thrilling re-match in Wanaka next weekend where Keat and Warriner are once again due to go head to head, this time over the iron distance.
The men’s race was taken out by 18 year old sensation Michael Poole who got the better of James Bowstead and a fleet footed Tim Berkel for the win.
