There was no agreement between body and mind at the IM WC Kona this year. After I got sick on the bike, my body just shut down.
After a great swim I found myself for the first time ever in the leading group together with 8 other girls. Oh awesome I thought, no need this year for pushing the pace in the first 40km on the bike and try to catch up with the leaders ... I'm there already. With a 40.1km/h average we passed the turnaround in Hawi and the group was still big, too big. On the way down to the Queen K some uf us start to picking up the pace. I still felt fine and looked forward to going really hard on our way back in the hope to split the group. Few km later, yes the group split but unfortunately I was the one who got dropped. What happened? I'm still work on this question. Somehow I got really sick, start to retch and my body just shut down. At this point I wasn't sure if I gonna make it to the finish. In T2 I put my run gear on, I want to give it at least a shot. Start running and felt ill but the legs told me to keep going. At the 25k mark finally I was able to get rid of everything which hurts my stomach and from this point on ... my race started. I picked up my pace and also some girls. Back from position 8 I was able to finish in 5th place.
Disappointed - Yes of course.
Try to get the best out of the situation - Yes for sure.
The Best you can Be just wasn't good enough this day. Proud I made the battle. THANKS to my boy David for kicking my butt in the lava fields. Big thanks to all my sponsors for support and to my Coach Brett for all the hard work. Congrats to my team mate James for a outstanding 4th - well deserved champ. Rest well everyone.
