Pre Kona experience

After a very relaxed and smooth trip from Frankfurt to Los Angeles, I’ve arrived safe and sound in Kailua Kona, the Big Island of Hawaii.

We were welcomed in the traditional Hawaiien way, with flowers put around our neck, also called a Lay. At the airport you could already feel the humidity of the island, the heat and our friend, the wind also gave us a warm welcome.

After arriving in our huge apartment, as everything in the US seems to be big, Yvonne and me put our bikes together and took our legs out for a spin. Checking out the famous Queen K and all the famous spots, that I have only heard about. After this short spin with a load of water and a shirt that was sweated true,I was still totally blown away bye this accomplishment, being at the startline of the Ironman Wold Championships in Hawaii.

I have to say that I have never been more trilled to get out of bed in the early mornings, to get out there and start the first training of the day. People that know me, know I’m not really a early bird and normally take a bit longer to get started, here it’s just so different, I’m so excited that I’m even waiting for my alarm to go off at 5 in the morning. I’m so looking forward to start the day, everything is just so awesome here and I can still not believe I’m really here.

A couple of days have passt and I have seen the whole course, swim, bike and run, the most challenging parts, the hard bike up and down Hawii & the hot Energy lab, after seeing and feeling all this, I have even gotten more respect for the Ironman here on this special island.

Today it’s Sunday and it’s only 6 days till the starts cannon go’s off. For now it’s better to train a little les, then to much, totally in the rytme off the locals and the Hawaiien style, hang loose……..
