Doc, absolutely correct. I started sports very late at age 10, did not like organized sports. Played only outdoor hockey in Montreal. No coach, no rules, just hours and hours of play. Certainly no drills. They used to close the change room at 10:00PM and I would skate by myself in the dark till midnight. Putting my freezing boots on afterwards was my first lesson in enduring pain. Eventually got into running, because again, no rules, just run. I never went to the gym as a runner and never got injured. Now, I do core, weights, etc, and injured all the time I see that kids enjoy being in their hockey teams, but I don't see them having fun. It's too STRUCTURED. No one just plays anymore, same goes for adults. Thanks for this, I truly hope that there will be a change, but I doubt it, it goes along with the lack of letting kids go that we remember back in the day.

WOW!!!!
When I was that age, I played outdoor ice hockey several nights a week, and on Sundays. We played hard and fast, but it was play. Nothing like what she describes. I'm amazed that you have not burned out. I had some endurance talent, wonder what would have been had I been exposed to organized running and swimming. I am pretty sure I would not have had the discipline for swim training then.(or now) Running yes, I love it.

So, I watched Ironman Canada a few days ago on TV and saw Mary Beth win. I saw her at Yellow Lake when I was at the race. So, on the run, I see something I have never seen before. An athlete running with 2 water bottles in her racing suit!!!!Will this be a trend soon?

I'm a terrible descender and at 56, certainly not reckless. One thing I was told by a former bike racer was to practice on a downhill on my own, that is, don't follow anyone. This is on a road bike. Sure enough, when I was picking my own line, it was fine, and I did not have to brake. However, I am not yet ready to do this route in the aero bars, but I can see how this helped a bit.

Looking forward to seeing all the TBB athletes in Penticton. Very exciting to know that you will be competing. How do I say Way to go in Japanese? MBE will be going too fast, so the cheer has to be short, like GO MB

I watched a guy in the pool this morning doing his technique drills, up and down the pool. I must admit, he had beautiful form, a great carry, nice hesitation at the top, and nearly perfect hand entry. It all looked great. Except for the fact that the whole time everything from his shoulders back were pointing down at a 45deg angle.
Were you in Vancouver this morning watching me swim uphill

All the best Jocelyn, aside from all the kudos you personally deserve, you shone a bright light on Team TBB. I would not have discovered Doc's great posts if not for you Here's hoping you race in Canada some day, a bientot
