it depends on what you do with your legs
if a heavy kicker then you dont need more cadence ,
however if you have not a lot of legs
smaller paddle and pull bouy does effect cadence

hi
yellow paddles are too big for those times
you are letting the paddles do the swimming for you
as you are just muscling the paddles and the surface area is doing it all for you
however
paddles are very important , the trick is to get the shape and size that yes you will swim faster  but you will have some carry over into your natural swimming once the paddles are not worn for a race .
thats key .
do they make your stroke better absolutely
do they make you stronger  absolutely
is bigger always better  absolutely  not .

hi , yes their is that mentality and it kills any go foreword .
not business will pay for athletes if athletes keep taking the free stuff , its as simple as that .
i wrote a little  piece  in 1997 and then tried with a team mate who retired and into management to put a thing together for european federation and it had sponsor big sponsor but itu  soon fixed that , shut down the whole union .
itu stuff is gone , olympic rings mean they will always while there be protected from ever putting athletes first , but wtc ids there for the taking
but
it takes people power to take it on , and we have not the movement we think we should have
cheers
the doc

problem is where the bread is buttered .

fegan ,
you can see what i deal with while trying to point out the obvious , to both pro and the age grouper alike .
 united front  .
there is not such a thing because people want to play the man , or the statement instead of the intent to make things better for all .
wtc  is not the enemy .
we are the enemy of our selves .
I've sat on meetings now for 20 yrs , and its always the same .
i good idea gets shredded , because of personal influence  or complete apathy cause we got money and don't care .
that goes same with the
pros
all cry and when they get money , seem to abandon all form of care for fellow workers .

 you tell me
how long do you think it would take providence  equity to sell
if
i said
here is an entry form .
and you fill it out and pledge  1000 dollars
to be put in a secure account
at one of the race entry providers
and 100, 000  people put in .
then they give me the commitment
that
should providence  who bought it for like 80 and change , sa not to 100, 000 million from  its own constituency ,
that they will not race another wtc event and all pros down tools , and say we will stick to other races .
Huh??
merchant bankers , are not stupid .
if there was that solidarity
we would own the sport
b4 yr is out
that bloody simple .
but i got to hear oh ,you don't know , how difficult , it is , or u have no idea  about , business .
where i come from  smart guys
know when to fold em ,
if we had solidarity , they would sell and be happy to get out of the investment , with their cash in tact and  no financial pain for their contributors ,
could even make them selves look good .
 so mate ,
i keep chipping away , not at wtc   but on how simple the equation is .
because its the myth of how tuff it is they stand behind , and then the divide and conquer  about age groupers , the pros are greedy .
they put that out because they need to make money out of the racers , because their business model is wrong
but when you have a million dollar company run by ex  athletes and race directors , that what you get .
a dysfunctional view of the sport .
those  to close to  the fire , like pro athletes have their usually sound minds  not  look at the big picture , some very smart guys and i know they are but have triathlonitis , because they are in the game .
want to shoot holes with a fish argument .
their argument was so shallow i couldn't swim in it
fish industry 3 times bigger than ours ,   i nearly fell off the seat , how much wow
you see , i think we should be looking at the health budget  and say how big is that ,
and then
see how much bigger ironman  or triathlon take your pick , should be  when compared to a male dominated  sit on your arse pastime .

this is our real enemy , the enemy from with in  that have the blinkers on , and have had them on for 20 yrs i been around it .
i just need to  keep on educating , we have the vehicle  to make a huge  I'm print on society ,
and we got clowns attacking the first group that decided  to try and give triathlon a million dollar prize purse .

it might be a job even too big for me , but i thought i would give it a go .
some time idealists  get killed in the rush  by fellow idealists .
and mate you can post this on every try site you like ,
because
they are missing a huge opportunity , and it won't come again , as the numbers will make it  impossible in the future .
6  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Breathing? on: March 19, 2013, 06:54:48 AM
breathing  is very important to all three , if you don't breath can't do any .
but joking aside
swimming and running its the most important thing
i just said this morning to a new athlete you must pick a breathing pattern and stick to it .
when asked which one
i said i don't care long as it don't change

9  General Category / General Discussion / Re: ITU guys go long on: March 04, 2013, 07:15:24 AM
i watched began docherty carve  a brilliant win in one of the tuffest 1/2 ironman races gerardmere before he even qualified to do itu races over 12 yrs ago , he was a non drafting guy , so not surprised at all only that he didn't shift there after china , alistar trains harder than most iron men athletes but i didn't see him go long
there was another race on the same course , he didn't step into that , and ill tell you first time i was disappointed  in him . a chink has been showed .

key is slow running with out stop start stuff
build the strength in it
and don't over push big gears on the bike and all should be well
the word patience springs to mind .
15  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Get a clue -kids on: February 09, 2013, 03:21:39 PM
thanks matt ,
we tend to do different distances but 30 sec seems to be a very good work out for gaining strength that turns into speed
