To quote former marathon great Juma Ikanga of Tanzania:

“The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare.”

He was known to have trained for 10 years at 200miles per week.  Was running low 2:08's in the 80's.  Now we have tech, science, and nutrition and how many going faster?

"To boast of a performance which I cannot beat is merely stupid vanity. And if I can beat it that means there is nothing special about it. What has passed is already finished with. What I find more interesting is what is still to come."
Emil Zatopek

"A runner must run with dreams in his heart, not money in his pocket."
Emil Zatopek

"It's at the borders of pain and suffering that the men are separated from the boys."
Emil Zatopek

and ofcourse you can't have a quote thread without the GREATEST!

"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses—behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."
Muhammad Ali

"I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark."
Muhammad Ali

and one from me last night watching Keat stretch her back - "I used to be all fit and healthy like that - if I did that now I'd end up stuck and in need of a chiropractor!"

"Dreams come a size too big, so we have time to grow into them"

Well, at teamtbb we had a dream back in December 2006 and I have to admit today, it definately was a few sizes too big at that time.

But when next week all of you are receiving your first fixed monthly pay check as a pro teamtbb pro athlete, then one piece of our dream is being fullfilled: Providing professional triathletes with the dignity of receiving a monthly fixed pay check as is so common in many other sports around the world.

Yep, we know they are not too big yet, as our dream was to also raise the bar for triathlon world wide and increase it's professionalism, so give us a little more time to grow further into our dream and see what will happen for teamtbb athletes over time...  Wink

Equally important, let's all keep checking the progress and efforts we ALL must make for our Social Projects around the world (Brazil, The Philippines, Thailand and soon more).

OUR dream of providing "Hope and Opportunity to youth in need through sports" is a dream we had back in Dec 2006, but that one is so big that we need a little help from all of you throughout 2009...

The end will justify the means!

" -If you trust in yourself...
  -Yes?
-and believe in your dreams ...
   -yes...
   -and follow your star...
   -yes...

The Great late Brian Clough Football manager....

Two Stories
The classic one is when he phoned the apprentices’ room at Forest one day and asked one of them to get him a cup of tea, only to be asked who it was. ‘My name is Brian Clough and I’m the manager of this football club,’ he said. ‘Oh,’ said the voice at the other end. ‘And do you know who this is? You don’t? Well, get your own f***ing tea.’ They reckon the apprentices room scattered down that corridor. I don’t think anyone has ever been credited for it,

He was very clever in his assessment of people. I was a very quiet person. He tried to provoke me. He’d play in the five-asides and he’d stand there and kick me whenever he could get away with it. If I snapped, then I’d turn on him and he’d be laughing. He had achieved what he wanted. His attitude was: ‘You are a defender, you need to get nasty.

And a quote
"Get in there - that's what I pay you for!" - to Derby County players at a training session.

Good luck to all Team TBB in 2009

glad you picked a clean one as i am sure you have 2000 from brian you cant use .
fantastic man manager , however not so good as a drink manager .
the current aston villa manager , who is the equal to all in the premiership, tells a very good one
of him being  a very full of himself  nottingham forest player  at the time , and remember this is when you were numbers one to 11
to get the  moral of the story .
oneil  said he asked for a meeting , and started to rant matter of factly , how he was under valued out on the right wing , and needed to be shifted into his right full position , as soon as possible .
he said brian said nothing thru my whole scenerio which was me going thru 20 reasons why i was better in my favoured postion , just sat their drinking his scotch , and bouncing a squash ball on his racket .
it was very off putting said oneil  but he soldiered on thinking the silence , was a good thing , and he may be making his point .
he finnished with  what do think ?,
he said brian stopped bouncing the ball , and looked strait thru him , and said ,
look you little "shit house "
"i dont know if our beloved queen has ever played right wing , but if she has , i doubt nought she would have played it any worse than you did last saturday ,
what number do you wear "
martin shifting further to the door, stammered no7, boss , well son i been contemplating what you said , and you were right , i may be playing you out of position , martin stopped walking backwards and said thanks boss , as he turned to go out  brian called out , get to the gear steward for this saturday ,
and get the shirt no 13 , and if you dont want to be playing in that shirt till the end of the season , and i sell you , you learn one thing ,, in my team you " shit house" , i pick your best position for me and the team , and i dont give a ......what you  think, and one day  when you manage , and a big head like you , will have a go , you will understand  why , now f..... off before , you get me angry !

Nietzsche on Ironman? - "To take elements of one's character, and to deliberately exaggerate and purify them, taking every opportunity to test the "improvements" in the field."

Interesting aside: Dougal Haston, Scotland's greatest climber; first up the direct route up the North Face of the Eiger, the South Face of Anapurna and the South West Face of Everest lived by some of Nietzsche's ideals and is buried in Leysin.

But I am interested. Why in Leysin? Climbing accident?

He was killed in an avalanche whilst skiing on Col Luisset in 1977. He was at the time the Director of the International School of Mountaineering in Leysin.

A quote of Haston's: "I will do many things for people I respect, and for fools nothing. They deserve to be trampled on."

I have always had a few quotes tucked away for times like these.. These two I admire...

"Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right!"

"While most people are dreaming of success, winners wake up and work hard to achieve it"
