Another question Cher: what crank lengths are you riding on your tri bike? Some people need to look at changing those too when they move up a ring. The best is to get a couple of different setups and see what works best for you, and what could potentially be better, and work towards getting your body ready. Like Matt says, you've only got one set of knees!
Too true Doc, we often miss something so simple, thinking that we can mold the course to ourselves, not realising that sometimes it is easier and smarter to alter ourselves to suit the course!!
