Hi Bella

Out of interest - like you I've just done IM Lanza - (by the way congrats to you & Stephen)  - my 4th IM - just wondered  - after a race like that what's your schedule for the week or two after - rest/ light exercise or straight back into full on training ? - not asking for trade secrets  - just wondered as I have a half in 4 weeks & Bolton Aug 2nd and would like to hit them both in peak condition but fresh and wondered what you guys do - I have a fair shot a AG Kona slot (missed it in Lanza) and hope IMUK will be kind to me.

Any pointers appreciated.

Thx

hi "Yuffie"

thankYou for your message!
Well done on your race at Lanzarote.

For me, after an Ironman I like to start moving the day after.  For example, the day after Lanzarote Stephen and I went for a walk, a little ride and little swim.  Then the next day similer.
The next day travel home, then begin to do a little bit more.  Not much, just keep moving.
Like you, I am racing 70.3 UK, IM UK and others!  So I dont hang around too much, I like to get back to some training after about 7or 8 days.
All the best

Thanks for the reply Bella.........there's always the concern of loosing fitness balanced against the  rest that's needed........these races do take a deep toll on you and I want to race strong but train well recovered. Like you I had an easy yet active week but was just curious ...........

I'm actually back into medium effort training now whilst not pushing too hard...........anyway thanks for the insight into how the front runners do it and best of luck to you both for the rest of the season and of course Kona - fingers crossed might see you there.

Hi Keith!  thankYou for your real name, ..I really dont like talking to nicknames!!  But forums just seem to attract that!

Anyway, you sound like your doing well with your recovery and easing back into training.
You have to remember that the Ironman will actually give you a tonn of fitness, ..as long as you recover and then ease back into training sensibly.  Probably the 2 worst things that you can do, is
1.recover for a year,
2. get straight back into training and make yourself ill, meaning you have to rest for 4 weeks!

See you in Kona and all the best with your other races this year,
Bella

Bella
Thanks for  the advice/insight -

Just as an aside I just got a link to a webpage of a guy  who's published full details of his local ride - the IMUK Bolton bike route - it's almost as much climbing as Lanza ! - there was I hoping for a faster route and it's Sherborne '08 all over again - never mind  - same for all I guess.

If you want a look it's -: http://www.energypics.co.uk/

Back into medium training now and off for a metabolic test tomorrow.
