At 9pm on race day, ironmanlive suddenly showed Bek as dq-ed which was unpleasant surprise for all of us after a hard day of work.

At 9:30pm Rebekah, family and myself went to the race office and sat down for nearly 2 hours with the head referee.

They had counted 3 cards which we talked through step by step and have susequently been debating rules and these cases for long.

While all discussions happened in a professional manner it is clear this was a very emotional experience for Bek who had a real hard time understanding how this sitation unfoulded knowing she fought a hard and fair fight today on the bike then followed by a very hard battle on the run to get herself back into the race from 12th at the start of the run into 5th at the finish line.

TeamTBB has officially disputed the disqualification at midnight it was decided all should step back for some rest and we are sitting down with the head ref again today, the morning after the race.

We will provide an other update later today when the head ref has also been able to talk to the individual refs who handed out cards.

Thank you for this info.

I hope a favourable decision can be reached, and I offer Beck my best wishes - I cannot even begin to understand what she is experiencing right now. Good luck.

I was following Bek on the tracker - I really hope this gets sorted out in a positive way but whatever happens rest assured that thousands of us are still in awe at what you laid down there yesterday. Awesome performance.

One just cannot judge Bek as a cheat. Not after what she did last year.. That was the clearest example of her great sportmanship and fairplay. So to say that she intentionally denied either one of supposedly 3 cards will not fool me!!

Whatever the outcome - she'll stay 5th place for me.

I agree with everything you say Bart.... trouble is we have to remember that Bek is a pro athlete, so an unofficial 5th place doesn't come with a paycheck...  Sad
This is her livelihood and so more than just a finishing slot hangs in the balance here I suspect.

It will get sorted out... i hope in bek's favor.

i was at waikoloa watching the race and there was plenty of drafting going amongst the slower swimmers and slower riders women pro's.  Bek doesn't fall in either of those catogories. she was riding a clean race when i saw her.  there weren't many riders in front or behind her.

again, the women pros need to start first at 6:40am and then everyone else at 7:00am. at least the slow women wouldn't see the pro men till hawi and then the pro men would be going to fast to even thinking about jumping on.
my 2 cents.

Is it me, or is 5th place jinxed?  Any further news on the appeal?

to call therace a wrld championship ,
needs to have atleast a pro womens start
every race that  does eliminates these problems
give them 15 min  head start ,
20 if your soft
and any pro women caught by the men
are out
just like the slow cuttoff
for all the age groupers .
any female that swims 15 min behind the fastest male
should not be there
as they are not a TRUE  triathlete .
this would give us , a fair race with out this who did what .
chrissie ,
had nne of these problems , as she powered away ,
asthe true and worthy winner ,
but ,
she also should not be able to tee off  the slower mens pros .
as did t mac .
nobody is bitching ,
erin baker was making these same suggestions 20 yrs ago .

S#@t OK Huh

One word Bek. "Alani"...

Take a step back Bek and put everything is perspective. You are an amazing athlete and a beautiful person. No single result can take any of that away. When you get a quiet moment remember what it felt like to help out a little 4 year old girl fighting for her life. You were and still are amazing.

This experience will teach you something. It may have absolutley nothing to do with the sport and you may not know what it is for some time but you will be stronger for what you are facing now...

Don't be a stranger, use your support network and call upon those you trust.

Thinking of you

Your mate.

Surely this has to bring some change to this ridiculous format. With solutions available it's so frustrating that this continues.

Bek is amongst the toughest and fairest people I have ever met. I just can't cop this, she is such an honest worker.

But you know what Keat, if anyone can use this to make themselves stronger it's you! Chew it up and use it as fuel mate. Keep tapping in to that positive Bek attitude. Everything you've done this year has been so impressive, going from strength to strength, your best days are yet to come.

Rock on
See ya soon.
