Bella,

Well done! It was so exciting to follow. As you know it's fireworks time in the UK - a busy night socially but I was out working visiting some of my restaurants with some area managers. You now have at least 6 new fans. I had the iPhone tuned to the tracking and was shouting for you all evening. They know I am training to finish an IM event - now they know a bit about my source of inspiration!

We opened a new restaurant in Aberdeen last week - let me know when you are heading back there (or indeed anywhere in the UK) - no more paying for pasta in the UK for you and Mr B!

I have been listening to Doc and did my first 3 hour run this morning - I love this sport! I loved it less yesterday when I got a rear puncture 8 miles from home and after doing a little dance because I fixed it all by myself for the very first time, I then realised I'd forgotten my pump....

Well done for yesterday - you're amazing.

Hi Emma

ThankYou for your message!
Good to hear things are going well with you.  The 3 hour runs will help you alot.

ThankYou for yours and your friends support throo the online coverage!

It was a tough day, ..like all Ironmans!  I did my best.  3rd was a good result, but when I know what it feels like to win here, ..3rd is not the same!!

ThankYou for your offer at your new Aberdeen restaurant!
What are your restaurants called?

all the best
Bella

Hi Bella

I've never posted on this forum before but I just had to after the You Tube video I've just seen! I wondered just how bad could the drafting be in an Ironman race after reading your blog (I'm an Olympic distance and 70.3 girl!)

Then this morning I watched a video which Chris Lieto has on his Twitter page!!!! I'm sure you are totally over what happened but I thought I'd share my shock at what was happening in the race. Roll Eyes

Very best wishes for 2010  Smiley

let this be  the final word on this  for the team
as bella or any one else  complaining on it ,is only going to hurt them .

the fact is all  females should be campaining for a fair female pro start with
a gap of at least 20 min

this is the only positive response to the situation .

the reason

the circumstance  that some races produce
leaves the girls
damned if you do and damned if you dont !

i know for a coach , that some of our woman can ride  as faster than  these guys .

so what do you do ?

if you decide to pull off every pack formed  because you are a female , your race is finnished .

the 3rd situation is
a female gets in a group of 7 or over then they can take 3 to as much as 6 min per 40km into girls riding on their own , that are superior riders .
so, you can be carted in to a race that you are really no part of .
this is why , i get charged with being so arrogant when  people throw names up that could be threats
in hawaaii , and i just dissmiss them out of hand , as not being a factor .
sure they can hit the 3hr runs
but off a very easy and assisted bikes .
those 5hr rides turn into 5h30 ones when they race with  no men around.

this is not news to any one that is a student of the sport , but there in lies the problem , for both the men and women
the officials  dont  know the real form of those they are officiating .
this is a diffificult thing to change
but we can  fix one of the dramas
with just one decision
send the girls  off first and with a gap.

Thank you Doc for an informed response to the issue and I guess it's for others to decide how this will be resolved  Huh

Hi Bella

The restaurants are called ASK, all freshly cooked Italian food so you can have it cooked however you like. We've got 123 in the UK - just let me know when you're around and I'll sort it. Take families Bayliss and Comerford out on me! Otherwise we could link up via email and I'll send you some stuff.

Good luck for Cozumel - I'll have my iPhone charged and ready for updates!

Best

Hi Emma

How are you doing?  How is your training going?

ThankYou again for your offer to eat at one of your restaurants!  We just googled your restaurants, www.askrestaurants.com
they look very very nice!

Stephen and I are in the UK for some time in December, it may well work to visit your Aberdeen restaurant!  We would like that a lot!  Smiley

I hope the updates for IM Cozumel next week are good!!  Smiley
Thanks for your support

Bella,

Great! Let me know when you're back and I will sort it all out. We are very very busy up there in Aberdeen.

My training is going well (I think!) - but then I don't really know if I'm doing enough. I do the 1.5, 2 hour and 3 hour runs every week. Then I do 3 swim sessions and I am trying to do 2 long rides but if I can't get out with the weather (we are having biblical rain here at the moment) I jump on the turbo. I have the 70.3 in SA in January - am I doing enough?

I'm tired but less tired with every week that passes and I'm spending a load of money - as far as I can tell, thats triathlon for you!?

ThankYou Emma!  That is very kind of you.  I will contact you a bit nearer the time when we are in Aberdeenshire.

It sounds like you are doing very well with your training.  If you keep up that routine consistently I think you will have a good day at 70.3 South Africa.
Your race at 70.3 SA will then give you a good indication of where you are and what you need to do for Ironman South Africa.

Maybe try to include some hills on one of your rides. ..riding hills gives you strength.   And sometimes on your rides, ride out easy and come home hard.  ..riding hard is good for your bike fitness!
..as for the run too, including some hills in your run routes will help your strength and fitness.

All the best and keep in touch!

Especially for 70.3 SA, don't be fooled by the website's statement that the bike course is "undulating".  It has a couple of long climbs, not overly steep, but not easy if you haven't done any prep.

And I heard a rumour they've shortened the climb up Bunker's Hill on the run course.  If that's true, it should make the run much easier, and quicker.

Hi Emma

How are you?

The other night we were in Glasgow for the night, we were driving back from the pool when we saw an ASK restaurant!  So we went in, and we had a lovely meal!  We sat right beside the River Clyde!

We'll go again to ASK, it was very good!
