Coached to fitness or get fit enough to be coached?

I flucuate between being a decent weekend warrior to doing the square root of bugger all with regards to training. I'm just starting another comeback from the sofa to the outdoors and priorities are weightloss, finding my bike in the garage and running consistently (to manage the first priority). My wife is going on maternity leave at the end of October so I'll be giving her the car (we currently commute in together) and I'll be back on the bike and into the pool in the mornings.
I've pretty much decided to go with TBB coaching (due to my non-interest in gadgets and to manage my temptation to skip or tweak sessions) but wonder should I wait until I've gotten back on the saddle and into the pool consistently before signing up or should I get started now and have the coach guide me in the best use of my time to get fit enough to re-start IM training properly?

I would say, get a coach now! Help you get on the right path straight away rather than making possible mistakes early on.

bella is right ,
and its not a sales gimmick machine here .
we just trying to provide an honest service , that actually does more than take your money and blow wind up your
........................
most pros make their mistakes in the initial stages of getting back into it from breaks ,
over 1/2 the age group injuries i hear about , come in the first 10 weeks of training for a particular race .
it IS THE TIME to have a coach

Hey I totally agree with Bella and doc!
One thing I found to be a consistent challenge with weekend warriors is eliminating bad habits,
and then learning new methods.
Which can be a dauting task for both athlete and coach, so the more time to do so, the better!!

Couldn't ask for a more top flight bunch of opinions - the stupidest thing I could do is ask and then ignore the advice - shit, this means I can't hide from the bike any more....
Better tell the wife she won't see me in bed in the mornings any more!
Cheers guys.

Last year I entered the Abu Dhabi triathlon and needed to work out a strategy to get myself over the line. I'm only in my second year at Tri and I decided to get a coach. Best thing I've ever done in terms of triatlon.
You can buy a super duper carbon bling bike and yes you will go fast but you need to be coached to be able to make it go fast constantly.
Coaching will open your eyes and you will start doing stuff in training that is lots more fun and interesting, but you need to want to put the work in. If you do put the effort in, then you will notice a difference in races. If you don't put the effort in you would be as well peeing against a wall.
I say do it, and watch how you improve!
