I would like to read the Hamish Carter book. I can't remember the book that I read, but one of them had an excerpt about some of his training later in his career. It was good.

There is a relatively new book on the market, Healthy Intelligent Training....the proven principles of Arthur Lydiard, by Keith Livingstone....who was trained by one of 'Arthur's boy's", Barry Magee, and lived down the road from Lydiard.
The book is endorsed by the Lydiard Foundation.
There are four pages on Hamish Carter's prep leading into Athens gold, under coach Chris Pilone.
Particular reference is made to the period of 8-2 months out from the race...
"I believe the cornerstone of Carter's Olympic result was the very good aerobic build up he did from January - June, 2004. He did long aerobic running, long aerobic riding and some hill work for cycling and running. The hill work was still aerobic. The hardest thing he did during this period for riding or running was definitely below lactate threshold intensity."
Pilone also said.."It became apparent to me that he was suited for good high quality aerobic work for both running and cycling but had to be careful with anything even slightly harder."
That's probably the money shot right there. Pilone reading the athlete, and adjusting the training accordingly.
I always thought Hamish Carter was the most economical mover I ever saw in the sport, in every discipline.
