of course I'm still going! I only ever go to the Motherland when there's an Ironman there. Ok now it's not really an ironman anymore but still it will be my first time to the mainland. and I get to check out Beijing and Hong Kong! I've been taking Mandarin lessons on CD for the last few months now. swim or no swim, Ironman China needs a Wongstar there!

QR so you are still going? I would of considered backing out and going for IM Jeju as it would be a cheaper trip for me, but I will be in the states in July. This is actually good news for me as I am not a great swimmer and the bike/run will favor me greatly. We will see what happens, only time will tell........

Hey Brad have a crack at it! Because somebody else will! You know what to expect in some of these wild Asian races Im just curious to how they going to do the start? Possibly every 30 sec like IM Korea that one year?

Apparently it'll be 5sec intervals, in race number order.
From what I've heard, it looks like the cancelling of the swim is down to political issues. Apparently they're even moving the whole transition area too, to a park, and there will be alterations to the cycle and run courses. They should be posting the new courses and profiles shortly.

I signed up for 70.3. i will most prob be going anyway since the training is done. There are not many races around Asia..
It will be an interestinging experience though.. 5sec is nothing. it will be messy on the bike and we settle it on the run.. i m not the best swimmer but i would have preferred to see the weaker swimmers wasting their energy in the water..
To me, those changes are either a.. how to say... a $$ issue or water pollution.
The good news is, i might see THE Wongstar

Start and transition have been moved to the park at Jixian. Apparently, the Yu Bridge Reservoir has been closed for the implementation of a major water works program by the city officials. This despite knowing for over a year that the race was going to be held there. Boggles the mind...

I kind of feel like I should pack my wetsuit anyway, like I'll get there and they will tell us the day before "oh BTW the swim is back on now!" for seriously, this is Ironman, "anything is possible!"

Or you could get up early before the race, find a pool, do a 3.8, then head off to the start?

Race cancelled. No authorization for the new road.. it was a money issue knowing the Chinese government..

I am beyond pissed off now about this, but as James would say "Onwards and Upwards", IM Korea here I come! I just don't understand why they didn't just keep it on the original course........

China is a hard place to do business... look at what happened to yahoo.. it is indeed very frustrating...
Korea is the back up plan. Considering it but what is the track record there? The race got cancelled in the past no?
