Jocelyn, I am really excited for you.  Keep it up.  I posted comments on your blog, as I didn't realize that this chat forum existed.
Anyway, I wish you every success.
I am dealing with some big issues.  My father passed away in the spring and my mother is in failing health.  I am trying to be an incredible teacher and eventually principal in my school....AND, I am very lazy by nature.

I am going to have to get some manner of routine going.  Balancing fitness with the other stuff.  I am not married and I have no children but other than that, I do have a full plate.   Any suggestions on how to get started with triathlons ?  All I am doing at the moment is about 30 miles running a week Embarrassed

Again, I am so proud for you....and I want to know more about your plans for Asia.  I miss being overseas.  I will be again one day, but now is not the time as I am needed here.

Kick butt.

Hi Dan!!   Smiley

thanks for all the sweet comments!  I love having a fan club!  It's good to hear from you.  Sorry to hear about your parents, that's a lot on your shoulders.  as for training... 30 miles per week is a lot more than the average person!  that's a GREAT start.  that's not so lazy.

I would start transitioning to a triathlete by adding one or two 30-min swims to your schedule every week.  if you find you are pressed for time, a good way to add a workout is simply to stack the swim right after a run.  Kind of like it's a recovery after your run.  Cycling I find is best to try on the weekend when you have more time (Huh).  Start out easy and short, just slowly add more time to your weekend bike.  Also, if bike commuting is an option you can try biking to/from work a couple times a week.  weather in Texas is probably yucky  Undecided so that may be an option when it starts to cool down there.  or, try swapping out one of your weekday runs with a bike workout.  A lot of newbies get ready for triathlon not necessarily by doing two-a-day workouts, but just being consistent and sticking to a schedule.  I'd aim for 3 runs (one longer one on the weekend), 2 bikes (longer weekend bike, shorter weekday one), and 2 swims since it sounds like you are pressed for time.  You come from a running background so it'd be ok to cut back on the running and increase your fitness/skills in the other two sports.

good luck and keep me posted!!
