Hey Doc or anyone who wants to jump in!

I was wondering how you know who is a "stayer" like a deisal engine and who's the "person who tends to "blow up " in racing or training..I'm sure you have a name for them too!  Can someone be a stayer in one discipline and something different in another?  Like a natural sprinter swimming but then when it comes to rnning more natural endurance who loses run speed in like a day (I think this is me?)..but I really don't know as I set the record for the 800 in school when I was like 12!  and knowing this would you give stayers lots of hard and not necesailly lots of log especially for chicks??  But what if someone can go long and slow forever but the slow is stupid slow would speed help?? and the guy who can quit training and still pull out a fast 200 on the track any day of the week or 50m in the pool, would he NEVER get speed work?  One more question about 800's, if a chick is trying to get her marathon down to say a low 3hr and she never done better than 3:28 is it good to try and smash the 15-21 800's to low 3 min, the evenually the low min will be comfortably uncomfortable or slowly work the way down from 3;20, 3;10, 3:05 etc?  Is there benefit in oing 10 800's HARD like sun 3 min pace?  Why would soeone like the wongster get super long runs??  was this just to build up the mileage and were they slow??  Do you think its possible for elite age grouper training basically on their own outside a "camp" setting to get  REAL breakthough and turn pro??

Thanks!!

gee , i would have to write a book to answer your question , lucky i have ,just didn't publish it and keep it for team tbb coaches at the mo .
my thoughts are not universal , but the easy answer is
girls tend to be all stayers , may be 7 out of 10 are
where men its 3 out of 10 .
stayers i don't train as hard as non stayers that you have to work there rings off to get the distance
wongster was sup a slow
we decided on a view of speed thru endurance
always a fav for me with the stayers
cheers

Wow I would kill for that book   Grin So non stayers need a crap load of volume and the wongster you tried to build speed over the long haul cuz maybe she could do the laong haul but slow as molasses?  kinda sounds like me.....I often feel like I'm fitter than faster, like running 16 mil/hr on freddy at the end of a build run is easy on my heart rate but I feel like my legs just can't keep up, like i have to hold on to freddy for dear life while my heart rate sits at like 135ish:-)  Sorry one more questions, what about someone who has an UNREAL kick in the pool, maybe due to a swimming background, do you still try to take out the kick even if her legs never get tired froom it?  She has a looong body, short wide legs and short arms, would lots of pad only sets be good ?  She always swims best out of a wetsuit, like in Kona Grin
Thanks Doc...sorry for the million questions!

What about the book? Why not really sell it without acutally publishing it? I would buy it, even if it is an unformated textfile and sign an agreement on how to use it (not sharing any information not working in the field of coaching, whatever ...).

....and while you're at it, if you could publish all the "Doc Stories" in one meaty volume, then I think we'd all buy that too   Wink

I buy my chapter one month at a time, the great thing about this is that I only get the content that is specific to me and my circumstances, I don't have to worry about the rest  Wink

Smart people are smart, not because they know everything, but because they question everything.

Flowergirl you have very good questions, but it sounds like you question everything and maybe worry a lot.

As a athlete the best things you can do are;

1. You made a coach choice, listen you your coach, TRUST your coach 100%
2. Over thinking, analyzing everything causes stress, added stress will HINDER your recovery
3. Quiet your mind, this will go a long way to make triathlon much more ENJOYABLE and reduce stress
4. Focus on fueling, recovery and sleep these are just as IMPORTANT as your training sessions
5. Focus on your training session, show up ready to NAIL every one, this is job one
6. Enjoy the process day in and day out, find the POSITIVES in everything you do
7. Have the satisfaction you did everything you could to prepare for race day, use that CONFIDENCE to fuel your mind on race day
