Hi guys, what's your opinion on training and racing without a bike computer? Happened to race on a "defective" bike computer and had a better bike split than before! Also learned Natascha Badmann doesn't use one. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey bakz14 this is definitively NOT the first time I have heard something like this!
As it can affect your mind-set and make your brain swerve from the task at hand...
And make certain distances feel longer than reality when always checking the progress.
Just like counting days while in a jail cell  Cheesy

The difference between a good race and bad race is often staying positive during a ruff patch.
These often arbitrary numbers often cause the "how the legs feel versus the numbers" debate!
Which can instigate a premature assessment of the present and eventually a downwards spiral...

How-ever, it can be a very useful training tool.
To check training routes, gauge RPM and make sure your sticking to the workout plan.

But eventually, striving to be aware of your body will help you in other aspects.
Importantly taking rational decisions when faced with various circumstances Wink
And that in my opinion, is what being an ATHLETE is all about!

I agree with Matt.  I don't use one in the race,  I think it is important to just do the race, the numbers aren't important.

But I like to use it in training, to check the time and distance I have ridden.  But again, it is not necessarily needed for training either.

Bella though really likes to have her computer with cadence on for all her riding, races and training.  It makes her happy to know what cadence she is at.

If you like it use it, but don't get obsessed with the numbers:)

Thanks M@ & Stephen! Got your point. Spent too much time checking and checking whether I'm hitting my target time and speed.. then feel down if I don't hit it. Instead of actually getting a "feel" of the ride.
