ON shoes were previously recommended to me here. I finally got a pair of the Cloud Racers (could not find them in the states) and am super pleased with them. I already have a fair amount of miles on them this week and my legs feel great even after a very long run. I don't think I would have taken them seriously if you guys had not recommended them. You get a nice little "shove"/propulsion forward with them with little fatigue, very cool!!  Grin

£115 per pair against £60 for my Adidias Adios 2 - are they really twice as good or are they like Newtons, nice shoes but last 2 months and cost the earth?

If you want to train in what you race in then these look like cracking shoes but with ultra-thin mesh could require replacing regularly.

Totally worth it, the mesh is like "see through" but not paper thin if that makes sense. I also used a very light racing flat for all my miles and racing. I just notice less leg fatigue after my runs. I also ran in newtons for a bit then went to a really cheap lightweight shoe. It's worth a try at least! I am SUPER picky about shoes and have tried everything so for me to actually like something surprised me  Shocked

I am abit like Renner, ...am very picky about which running shoes I use, However when I put on ON for the first time 10 days ago, straight away they felt really really good.  Soft on the landing and springy on the push off.  I am very impressed with them.

Hey Fegan, it comes down to personal preference and I am a big fan of if its not broke don't fix it. But this year was a big learning year for me. I battled Plantar Fasciitis after running in Newtons for the last 5 years straight. The Newton shoes did not cause my injury (its actually a great shoe) but with this injury the Newton shoes needed to go because they prevented it from getting better.

Because I needed cushioning in the heel, I started running in Hoka's (did not really know that much about the On's at the time).

I did all of my training runs in the Hoka's. But I started racing in the On Cloud Surfers with good result. They were cushy in the heel which I needed but responsive in the forefoot which the Hoka's lacked. They felt lighter and more responsive than the Hoka's without beating up my PF.

I just recently ordered a pair of the On Cloud Racer version to see how those go. I will still continue to train in the Hoka's for the cushioning and stability but will continue to race in the On's until that proves to not work for me any longer. Once my Hoka's wear out, I may go 100% to the On's training in the Cloud Surfers but racing in the Cloud Racer.

So I guess you have to just find what works for you. Not sure how many miles I will get out of the On's. But I got almost 500 out of my first pair of Hoka's before retiring them. I would consistently get 400-450 out of my Newtons. In both cases I retired them sooner than probably necessary. So I'd say that's a good bang for the buck.

The way I look at it, your feet are your foundation. Invest in them wisely. People will piss away money on wheels and aero helmets that they use maybe 3x per year with minimal return but will skimp on running shoes which they will wear 3x per week and complain about their crappy race because they were hurt and couldn't run.

 Hi,
Our selection of run shoe was not a money decision .
Infact it was the other way round .
I have in past endorsed newton , however newton in their wisdom didn't want to sponsor us , and all who have them know they still haven't addressed the wear and tear issue .
On are a superior shoe for all age group athletes that simple .
I think for thoose that have problems they will be a blessing in disquise , those that love to feel the freedom of el natural , will love this concept
As one wh has ran a marathon in flip flops , I can attest they have all the same feelings as bare foot accept with great cushion it is as they say like running on a bed of air
You can bet on that

I had the pleasure to speak with Scott Neyedli on Saturday who has been sponsored by On for 2 years now. I was asking about wear, due to the high cost of the shoe, he tells me that early on there were issues but these have been resolved with a better compound and attachment of the sole.

He recommended CloudRunners for the day to day and CloudRacers for eeerm racing. He also mentioned (as does the website) that you need to drop a European size (half UK / US) when switching from the Runner to Racer so a 42 Runner would be a 41 Racer despite it being the same mold, just the thinness of the upper.

Worth a try - they do look cool too  Tongue
