hey guys!

I just want to ask your opinion on using carbon bikes on bike trainers. One of my friends said that using a carbon bike on a bike trainer isn't ideal because it puts too much stress on the carbon frame and may cause some hairline damage that can't be seen. Is this true?

Hi Ferdie
I'm sorry no one has replied to your question!
I personally have no idea.
Anyone?

Hi Ferdie

Mmmm, I have used my carbon bikes on turbo trainers before and never had any problems or even heard of problems before,
but I will ask Stephen to tell you his opinion!   If anyone knows, he probably will!

Hello Ferdie,

I don't think it is a problem, especially using a tubo that holds the back wheel, I can't see it putting any undue stress on the frame.

That's my opinion anyway:)

ferdie ,
been using turbos now , for 18 yrs or so ,
and i can tell you , if it is a good well made bike   no drama at all in that area
back in the day a few brands that no longer exist like kline  and a couple of others had structure problem s  and they wore born out on a turbo ,
more weak bottom brackets .
the only problem , is you must clean it , after sweating on it , the corosive effects of sweat magnify what is probable with plain rain water , unless in beging .
so sweat up a storm and cleanit  and there should be zero problems

Might be worth checking with the bike manufacturer about the warranty - though I have never known a bike to fail due to turbo usage.  I Know Cervelo say you are fine to use there bikes on the trainer - unless you crash - and then you will have to use their crash replacement policy.
Thought this was quite funny but one of my mates crashed his bike on the turbo this summer warming up for a time trial ;-)
