I recommend Avi-Bolt. I have flat feet. But no ploblem. I use Avi-rhythm for walking but it's also good for running. When run fast I prefer Bolt, Run slower I like Rhythm. Mostly I use Bolt. I had tryed Newton once. But I like AVIA because I can use toe more natulaly. I used Asics last year. My run time was 2:59 at IM Canada. On this year at Louisville, I could run 2:56 with Avi-bolt. (both flat run course) I don't know the cause from shoes or Sutto's trainig. But I can say that I can run faster than last year instead slower

Hiro:
I'm glad the Avia Bolt IIs are working well for you. They're great shoes, but an injury is an injury. As soon as I switched shoes my pain immediately subsided. Too bad I can't wear them.

Doc, as usual, you are right on the money. From an old guy who has been running since 1974, shoes today are WAY over structured. I cringe when I see the Nike Shox shoes. There are some companies however, that have realized this and are moving towards minimalist shoes. I often met with Aussies who run barefoot.
I am and always have been a believer in minimalism with running shoes. Let the foot flow through its natural motion. Shoes that are too cushioned or have too many gimmicks don't allow for the ligaments and muscles to strengthen. In all my years of running, I have never been biomechanically injured. I am not a light runner either, 70KG at 1.78M (155 Lbs at 5'10" for you Yanks)
I also alternate among several pairs of different shoes. This has helped avoid repetitive motion injuries, and keeps the shoes fresher longer.
Have never tried Avia, but if they are good enough for TBB and Erika, I need to take a look.

I am not 20kg heavier than Hiro (I hope not anyway) but run in the Rhythms and walk in the cool looking Bolts I wear the men's Rhythms too because I have wide feet, so no pretty purple color... oh well! you can make up for it with cool looking hair and no one will notice your shoes

The Avi-Lites are a good shoe if you're looking for a light shoe with some cushioning and some stability.

As for the K-Swiss K-Onas...all the Road Runners Club of America reps received a free pair of K-Swiss shoes during last years' convention...which just happened to be the K-Ona. I was a little worried when I first tried them on, but after putting a pair of elastic laces I found them lighter than (but as comfortable as) the Asics Landreths I train in. The K-Onas drain sweat/fluid better through the sole than the Zoots I used for my last HIM.

Javaman:
Have you tried the K-onas? I'm really interested in the inserts that come with the shoe.

guys i dont want to turn this into a shoe bashing , philosphical debate , because there is no debate . no foot in the world needs any guidence or stability control . it already has it built in . we interfere with it not help it . the newton shoe as it is ,is a good shoe just the normal race flat . it just wears out too quick . newton , is not about shoes , any way . they are trying to teach people to run a certain way so i think its like that pose guy trying to sell a method but they take it a step further and try to put a shoe on it .
they didnt like my philosphy of their shoes being good for heal roll runners . which is diametrically opposed to their teaching for want of a better word . other brands dont preach how to run . our group has heal toers ,our group has mid foot runners ,our group has ball of foot runners if i believe it works for them i encourage and train the technigue they already have , i dont try to change it . others are inefficient trying to copy some style or running that is more a dogma some one has latched on to and is preaching , as the new do it this way and you will go faster . all total crap . one persons pleasure is anothers poison . where do i get my theories for running marathons in iron man .? well i sit and let all the 3hr guys go by
then i look at the 3h30 to 5 hr runners and study their run patterns . i dont get video tapes of kenyans and ethopians running at the world championships men weighing 48 to 62kg women 35 to 50 kg and of course some huge ones at 52 kg and say ok this is how they do it , so i will teach and age grouper who runs 3 times a week and started running at 40 this is how bekele does it so it will be great for you too . or the 38kg tula runs like this girls so this is the way . no different to my philosophy in swim or bike as i dont watch endless video of ian thorpe or michael phelps and say this is how you need to do it . to a person who just learned to swim . or here is lance armstrong lets copy him . on the bike .
its mindless twadlle by people who should know better .
we look to copy natural movements that each individual is comfortable with and to hone and improve them . not impose a certain teaching as right or wrong , but what works and what dont .
i am amazed when i have people say show me what you do to learn about running , and i say great meet me 2hrs after the winner comes in and we go look at some techniques . they sit or stand with me for like 2min , and say , your kidding right , like i am playing a joke , then leave , i just sit there for hours watching grand mothers running past fit looking young men , and i just marvel , at how does she do that ?, why does she do that ?, what she got he dont ?, that has never ceased to amaze and fascinate me . i learn more from that , for age groupers , than watching crowie or macca run by , you learn nothin from that , well not true , you learn how to slow down age groupers . coaches or run companies that think they can impart those skills on to jo ordinary guy or gal . well they are having their own wet dream . its not real , the expectation is not real . lets put the post to bed , as i dont need or want every body listing shoes , and their technlogies here . i say for the last time how i judge a shoe would i wear a newtons to run in ? yes would i use my money to buy one ? no. would i run in an avia bolt or rythem ? yes would i use my money to buy them ? yes . what the difference ,? in my opinion value for money the rythems are going to last 3 times as long and the bolt 2 times as long you asked my opinion . thats it lets move on .
