Has anyone ever run a respectable IM marathon in a pair of "Newtons" Huh

Will Newtons end up in the same pile as Softride bikes, Zipp beam bikes  Huh

Hillary and Erika both run in them. Erika just won 1/2 IM California and IM Arizona running in them. Not sure of her splits, but she runs circles around most of us on the track. Wink

Top US marathon Josh Cox is running in them.  www.joshcox.com

just like anything, if works and it feels good, then it's good.  it's very subjective.  that's why there are a lot of shoe companies out there.

try them for yourself...

Big sexy trucks through sub 3 hr marathons after ripping 4hr30 bike splits in them

I just started in them and I think they are sweet as.  I still land breifly on my heels but they definatley promote turnover and moving forward.

i think they are ok, but for the opposite reason .
they promote heal strike , not toe running , which i think is rediculous for ironman people .
so i openly support them for shufflers ,
this means way less injuries for the slower  age group type guys
but that is just my opinion ,
i think all shoes that try to lock you in to perfect ball strike running pose position , are just injury promoting devices
high heels cut away for foot then stiff bars to make sure you foot dont move .
just the ticket for shin splints and stress fractures .
the newton shoe combats from that , but i fear they wont like my logic .

I am a Newton fan, I love them. Running 3:01 last year in Hawaii in the training version what is basicaly the same like the race version, the first has more cushion for the heel.
I needed some time to get use to them. Better if you adapt them slowly. At the moment I only run the track sessions in them.
But I would prefer some decent colors  Kiss

Ok, but pink with pink is for american blond Barbies  Wink
How many Barbies did you have? Still having them? Grin
(mine is ugly yellow....)
They should have to make something for tomboys like me....deep purple? Or black for punks with golden strips....?!
Oh yes, and I would like some light into the the heels, it would flashing when you reach the ground, like the kiddos have....

Doc I think you are on a winner here :-)  I am going to take my newtons to be pimped  Grin.

as for a gimik ... dude if you look at the record of IM course records and IM wins on a soft ride i bet a lot of companys would like to become a gimik.
I have been running in newtons since june and have run sub 3 hours in them several times , crowie 2:45 in hawaii , natasha 4:07 half Im in them . natasha ran to victory in IM south africa 2 last year. how many more examples would you like ..erica IMAZ.

mate they are here to stay.

don't forget about Spira, with their forefoot spring cushion technology and getting banned by us track & field because a lot of  the marathon winners are wearing them.

i prefer Spira, because of the smooth sole, compared to the lugs on the newton (they made my toes go numb).  just a preference.

i think you missunder stood
i dont think its gimmick the gimmicks are all those other clogs with bars and shit in them
to make sure you get injured .
flexible in the mid food , low in the heel
big sexy , you ask any athlete  i trained from the early 1990 ,i was mad on low heal and flexiblemid
i have seen nothing yet to change my mind
the foot needs to move to counter balance the weight we carry .
no room to move , equals injury

Doc, I need to transition out of my Newtons. The cost is killing me.  Sad But I do love how they feel and I have been lucky to not have injuries since running in them.

How would you suggest transitioning out of them and but continuing to supplement run training with them since you seem to advocate for some of the benefits (albeit counterintuitive) to their design?  I know you support Avia's. Is there a good model you would recommend? I run in the stability models of Newtons.

Thanks!
