Hi,

my advise for Im training is to keep it fun , people always ask me what I do on the bike to get stronger... I just ride my bike , I like to ride it.  if something is fun you like to do it and you will make sacrifices to do it.

if you take a look at any sucsesfull sports person they all have a passion for the sport and love what they do, the moment they stop loveing it they generaly start the slide .

Cheers Chris

may be not the advice your looking for ,
but big sexy has nailed it .
every guy that has been a power house on the bike , in my group , except loretta harrop ,
not only love riding , but , i am amazed ant the attention they give their bike .
craig walton , took such tender care of his machine , it was , and must have been a love affair ,
until emma come along , if he wasnt riding it , he was cleaning it , he was rebuilding , it , soem times i thought he was feeding it , reinaldo , also spends much down time fussing around his bike , meticoulous
big sexy the same ,
nicola , she might not do it ,i dont know but it is always clean and shiny .
the point is , they  love it , they love doing it , for them ,its not a chore , to ride but a joy .
i have never seen someone that dont like to ride , really get on top of it .
and loretta
well,  she viewed it as an implement to smash people with .
so treated hers  like a hammer .
but here is the rub , she rode 2 bikes her whole career even though canandale  gaver as many as she wanted each year ,
they could not crow bar her off her little hammers , why?
she viewed them , as a piece of her , she fell in love with them .
its not about the training , but about the attitude

I DO clean my bike myself -but then my mechanic complains that it is still not clean enough and does it again... Roll Eyes I tried to get Reinaldo to clean my bike in the Philippines but he only cleaned Marianas Cry Angry

I think cleaning the bike before a race is very important, not just to impress the other athletes ( Wink) but by cleaning you have the chance to check everything again and see if something probably is not right, so you can fix it before the race. And I was like Loretta, I never wanted to change my bikes and take the new ones, because as doc said, you have to really like your bike to get along with it and ride fast on it, to give it away is hard, and the sentence "don't fix what's not broken" counts here as well, why change a bike if it was great! But if you have a company you can trust (like Cervélo Wink) and you know they give everything to improve the bikes and make the new one even faster, it's easier to change the bikes and it can also be a BIG motivation to get a new bike!! So just that not everyone keeps their old bikes now, the new Cervélo is great and I think the one next year will be even faster Smiley!

I always remember what Reinaldo told me. "ride the hills sitting and in the biggest gear, because that is what will make you strong on the flats". it seems to work for him!

In an interview about 4 or 5 (?) years ago, after going through a barren patch, Waldo said he was going back to 'his old training'.

He followed that with something like 'when I'm swimming well, I'm riding well'.

At the time I never thought much of it.

I do now. 'Swimming hurts' helped my bike as well as my swim. Thanks Doc for the great advice Grin

Watched him win Noosa a number of times. I'm sure he would.

Any thoughts on why he didn't do so well at Ironman?

Watching video of his last Noosa in 2007, forgot just how big a unit he was! Sensational descending down Tewantin hill, and slam dunk of his bike in T2  Shocked
