Probably the most common question I get asked by athletes at races (some people think I have some knowledge in this area Shocked)  is, what is your race day nutrition?

Ok so fellow professional athletes, can you give us your race day nutrition, for Ironman in particular?

Mine is simple, water and gatorade, and a gel or 2 an hour throught the race.

I know many athletes get in some cal's thru fluid - a carbo drink on the bike. I like to take in some type of real food also - to break up the overload of powergel and powerbars. Something like a few cookies, a jam sambo or a banana.

Most important advice is to train on what you plan to use on race day. Just to see how your body takes it.

you cant beat a good steak and ale pie....Smiley

nah, for me....doing olympic distance..... i eat white bread or a bagel with jam and/or honey and one banana 2 or 2 1/2 hours before the race kicks off, washed down with a cup of PG tips, and a few glasses of the clear stuff...water, not vodka. During the race i just have one litre of water on the bike and a gel 2/3 of the way through the bike leg. plus, water on the run, which i mostly spill down my front.
and a steak and ale pie at the end.

There are some terrific liquid fuels available these days that can supply all your nutritional needs for an Ironman day. Many contain the required amounts of electrolytes as well.
They are simple to use and can avoid the fights with sticky gels, hard to open and chew bars etc.
The Australian product I have had enormous success with so many age group athletes is ENDURA OPTIMIZER . We encourage athletes to use it on long ride days and has been very effective in hot, humid conditions. The Vanilla flavour is very easy to consume.
I understand HIGH 5 also do a super carb liquid fuel product that works equally as well.
The occassional bar, cookie or even sandwich to break things up inconjunction will work a treat.
If anyone is serious about looking for a viable alternative to their current formulas send me an email I would be happy to provide further details - scottpenny@teamtbb.com

Good lad,  I´ll be having myself a nice cold beer in a minuite.  BUT, not whilst I am doing serious foruming!  That would be highly unprofessional!
