had an update from melvin ,
matts operation went well , and he will come out of hospital tomorrow morning our time .
he is a little incapacitated at present .
rei , is in subic ,and on behalf of all of us , would like to thank him with his help of matt .
people ,
this is your living , and you should all make sure you have work compensation cover .
no matter how hard i try to find the safest places , accidents do happen .
if this happened in the usa , with no medical , matts career would be curtailed for years .
you just cant afford to be a professional sportsman ,. and not be insured .

we all wish matt , the strength  , to deal with this, as it will be,  his hardest test to date .
however ,
i know if we all give him a hand , i know it will not impede his progress .

Hey Matt,

So sorry to hear about your crash. Embarrassed I broke both of my collarbones in bike crashes. The last one was in Sept '01...I was back in Canada at the time, and they said it was a bad break, that if I was in the US it would have been operated on. I had to skip my Sept/Oct races, but I was back racing again in November. That's when I met Brett, at an ITU points race in Brazil...everything happens for a reason.

Don't let this set you back, but make you stronger. You'll soon be back at it.

Hello gang!
Thanx a tone 4 your kind messages…

I will start with how this happened.

I was a sunny day, only 1557 days before the next Olympics and juiced on Brazilian coffee. I had a rendez vous wit Rei at the Benictican pool and I was very exited to have a training mate!
Once at the top of the hill, which I had rode up with my biggest gear, I started the downhill to the pool, but at the bottom, in front of uncle Heds shop, there is a speed bump which I bunny hoop almost every day!
But this day would be different, going approx 45kpm, I got massive air, and once I landed, my handle bars gave out, I went over my bars, hit my front wheel, fall on the tarmac and slam into the edge of the side walk.

My first instinct was to scream, swear in French, check my face for damage, but nothing!
YAAAAAAAAAA!
But once I push myself up, I felt a sharp pain in my collar bone and I just knew it…
Most common bone broken.

So now, the best I can do is to relax and be patient, 2 things I am NOT good at!
But will have some time to practice this.

Reinaldo has been a super douper good friend, staying with me over night after me operation, helping me clean my road rash and even flossing my teeth!

I also realized how many people I have made to be friends since my arrival here in Subic Bay!

90% of collar bone don’t need to be operated on, but after looking at the x-ray, I was like” how the fuck is that going to fix itself?”, I chose to listen to the doctor and get to cheapest collar bone surgery in the world!!

I WILL be back!
