Hello, new forumite here. Smiley
Interesting stuff on here, hope I can contribute in some way.
Anyway, for my first post, can anyone help me with where I might run, away from traffic in Singapore.  Any reasonable-sized parks close to the CBD that I can do some intervals in tomorrow morning?
I know of the ECP area but I might struggle to get down there and back from where I am but would be happy to take a cab somewhere closer, just to get started.
Hope you can help.

Chris.

Hi Chris

I am sure someone will be able to help you.
Stephen and I went for a fine 2 hour run in Singapore once, we did fine by just running towards some park by following our intstict.  We found a few places that were fine to run, but I would struggle to tell you where they were!
Good luck!

Most of the run was down where the 70.3 run is, which was starts and finishes at the big stadium on the water.  Hope that helps a bit.

Hey Chris

Singapore is a great place and BG and I have had many good trips there. Ok go grab yourself a copy of ASIA RUNNER Mag (www.asiarunner.asia) - June August issue, the one with BGs mellon on the cover and her backside on the back!!! Inside you will find info on where to run in Singapore and the most extensive events calander I have ever seen, for the entire region of Asia.
Run ya guts out,
Juz.

Thanks all.
Stephen, I know where you mean re the 70.3 run as I did it last year and, funnily enough, ran round the little park at the end of the run loop on Tuesday morning.  It's just getting there, avoiding all the traffic and traffic lights!!
I think I'll head for the Botanic Gardens as soemone at work has recommended it.

I live in Singapore and would be happy to help you.  If you are staying in the CBD there are really no runs from there that are easy to direct you to.  My recommendation would be to run the 70.3 route (changed for this year) so take a cab to the start of the East Coast Service Road (tell them the Fort Road junction - should take around 10 mins), get out at the first (and only) roundabout, walk to the inner path and then run run run.  You will have the beach on your right (after about 10 mins) and it really is a nice run - especially first thing in the morning.  I do it 3 times a week.  Just do an out and back - no need for directions as it is a single path just for runners.  You will pass a row of shops called The Big Splash after about 15 mins which is the new transaction area for the 70.3.

Let me know if you need any further help.

Don't know where you're staying, but as others have said the East Coast parkway is closest to the CBD, head to Fort Road roundabout as advised.

Otherwise, the best run in Singapore is round Macritchie resevoir, all trails through the jungle, with a bit of up and down. Start at the Lornie Rd carpark and run anticlockwise, in other words, always keep the resevoir on your left and you'll be fine.

Again, thanks for all your replies.
I decided to go with the paths aroundthe Botanic Gardens but it was a mistake.  It was pretty dark and I couldn't see the pace on my Garmin  Sad; it had been raining in the night so paths were a bit wet and slippy  Sad; I couldn't get a taxi back to the hotel when I'd finished and it started peeing down  Sad
I think I'll do the ECP next time  Smiley
