rookies and peception are a very interesting mix .
one of the good things about the forum , is as a coach you can get a feel of how  an athlete  percieves things thru their eyes .
one word that , a few keep reinterating is me yelling at people .
now ,
where i come from , yelling is when your really lifting ones voice to a shattering level , do i  own such a volume ?
well yes , have i used it , well no, not on the girls ,
the main reason , ole jack again ,  they couldnt take it .
but with these little newbies i thought i was being very well behaved , explaining where they are going wrong , telling them very obscure life stories , to get them to think outside the box , and not so everything triathlon .
but one thing i have noticed with many years of coaching women , if you are explaining something , that the woman in question , either does not believe in , or they feel they were wrong , then that explanation
seems to escalate  the decibles in their own mind , i kid you not . what is clear concise explanation, becomes YELLING!
so of course wongstar and miss south africa , are walking around with what must be what seems like church bells in their head on a nonstop basis .
as the chicks ,seem to  get it wrong lots of times , but, that is what rookie camp is about , not can they go faster , but wether they can be vessels of change , this is the most important thing to be garnerd out of our time in phillipines  .
who has the capasity for change and can sustain it .
THESE I CAN HELP. those who cant , you are only putting a band aid on , and it works good for a short time but then the sticky bit wears off and you need a new one.
the men ,
well  thats different , i am a man too , so its my policy , that depending on the man , he makes a mistake ,
you let him know , he makes it again , your let him know  more forceably , he does it again
well there is no room in this boot camp , sort of one thing i picked up from usa ,3 strikes and your out .

so mr becker has been brought up on the movies  and watching the marines in all their finest , we got another look at the fine young men , in subic bay this week , not their finest hour but my little pack of americans watched and it was not lost on them , how they can be percieved a little different to what those who live at home think.
so mr becker , has taken up the role , of team tbb marine , and drill sargent doc , is indeed in full voice for his new recruit ,mr becker , i think wants to be a triathlon marine , or he better be if he dont want to keep watching everybody run past him at the races .
but his days of talking a good game is over should he be offered a spot  here .
we here and camp team tbb talk with actions , or we dont talk , rule no1  with marines .
follow orders , and execute , our littel cuban american , with columbian ties , he is still making up his mind , which is a very smart thing , cause if you say i am in at camp team tbb , that means your in ,right up to your eyeballs , and manny has not raced past the little draft fests the itu put on , a contract here
means 3  70.3  and 3 ironmans .
and that can be very daunting prospect , for a wet runner.
so , lets see how he wants to play it , before he falls in to sutto usa marine corps.
these boys , have to be the real deal , not about how fast but representing those in the states ,that they can be hard men .
and make ole doc chow down not just on his grits , but saying the majority of usa athletes can be a littel soft centred .
i am waiting boys ,  now stop holding on to ya mama  and show me some steel
rookie boot camp your got to love it  Cheesy

"sort of one thing I picked up from usa, 3 srikes and your out."

This is the westend story about the cowboy and his horse and wife?

-The cowboy crossed the big desert -let say in Arizona -on the back of his horse with her wife. The horse made a wrong step and stumbled.
He said: ONE. They were continuing their journey. The horse did it again. He said: TWO. They continued. The horse stumbled again.
He said nothing only took off his gun and shot him down. The wife of the cowboy was yelling on him madly: Why did you shot the horse down?!
He said: ONE.

Welcome to teamTBB Blake!

Our motto is what you see is what you get, and what you read on this forum is NEVER a personal attack, but just an opportunity to grow as an athlete, as a team and as a people.

Once we get beyond our own ego's we can start moving towards a great place, a team that wants to support those in need, to support those that are looking for some hope and opportunty to achieve their dreams or at least give it a shot. teamTBB is not just about some pro's running around the track, but a place where we can contribute beyond ourselves and our own ego's, as that can bring great fulfillment and happiness to life. Not to forget the inspiration this provides for the young Asian kids checking out our training sessions.

Ask Reinaldo how he feels when he is among those 470 kids part of Cali's social project in Brazil that look at him as a role model, an inspirator and maybe even their own Brazilian triathlon hero. They want to hear his stories! They love to hear what mistakes he made and how he learned from it, they want to hear about his Olympic dream and that a 30+ finish place was not exactly what he had planned and worked for for years, they want to see how he bounced back winning the Brazilian long course race a few weeks later, they want to be inspired by the fact he too started as a 15 year old guy that just had a dream to be the best he could be...

Check Reinaldo's blogs and see how a young guy learned English himself and writes fantastic blogs about his life experiences. You think he doesn't know his english is not always perfect? Of course he knows, but he rather shares his stories with his social project, those 470 kids that are dying to hear about his experiences, then to just keep quite.

People that can communicate a story well, inspire! The good news and the bad news. Only people that make themselves vulnerable by sharing their mistakes can teach others!

Like your new President said in his speech last night "We are one people!"

I hope you can move beyond your fear of the public sharing in these or other open forum conversations, because once you start to win IM races, much of an athletes life is in the open anyway... Wink Try to go for a pee as previous year's IM Hawaii winner during the run, you will find 2 camera's filming you in the bushes  Grin

I'm american athlete..Ironman distance....we aren't all soft...i have many stories

here is one - drink beer until 4 a.m....wake up at 5 a.m....leave the house on bike, with short sleeve bike clothes, realize its 45 degrees fahrenheit when I start to sober up...ride 160 miles anyways and drop most the group b/c the only way to stay warm is to ride hard

congrats go out to the young recruit.  we look forward to watching him achieve greatness with this new opportunity!

Doc your correct being a sickbay commando could destroy your career. no sick bay until after formation..
I also experienced this same type of discipline in NFL training camp, of course athletes had access to a IV sticks..I'm convinced he would of been there if he had that kind of treatment!! Than again it could make one soft. Thanks for bringing us one......

Hello All!
As requested, here I am on the forum.

First: To Wongstar: Mr South Africa?! Really?! You're gonna have to come up with a better nickname than that. Mr South Africa is some dude who gets manicures, uses self-tan, plucks his eyebrows and schmoozed some judges to 'win' his title. He can have it...  Grin
Second: Do you really think you have the influence to persuade Doc how to treat me? Special attention? I am not even sure what you were hinting at, but so far no 'special attention' has flown my way. Maybe I am still in the grace period, if that actually exists. I wonder...
Third (jac187): 'a lean mean disciplined fighting green amphibious monster'?! Ahh, what a picture you paint. I have visions of The Hulk in a pink teamTBB tri-suit... (and perhaps smaller shoulders...)  Wink

As for everyone wanting an update: So far so good, actually. There is work to do and we are working hard, but so far nothing unreasonable (for a pro athlete anyway) and Doc has even been so kind as to allow us a rest day tomorrow! The group is holding together well too and it is refreshing and fun training with a group for a change. Most are over the mysterious illness that afflicted everyone (and I have luckily avoided thus far) so it is full steam ahead.

I look forward to the next block of hard training after our day off. Onwards and upwards towards great things!

hi James!  I only just met you right before you left, will have to give you a better nickname next time....or we can call you the Sports Scientist.   Wink

ooh and I wanted to say hi to everyone from the Tokyo airport and let you know...
The Wongstar not only managed to avoid the weird sickness plaguing the rookies, but...
she managed to avoid excess baggage fees going home!!!
it must be my devastating charm and smile  Cheesy

they didn't even weigh my bike, they were more concerned that the dimensions were more than 60 inches.  which they were.  how the heck do you even get a bike box under 60 inches?!  it was under 80 inches for sure.  I made up something about how I had called up and they said since I was connecting to American Airlines (from JAL) it had to be under 80" not 60".  they looked skeptical.  then I said I had gone on bike tours sponsored by JAL and never had a problem...and had flown with them before many times and had never been charged...  hip hip hooray...that will dull the sting of the $250 charge I got on the way to Manila.

when I got on the plane and read the newspaper, my horoscope said today I can talk my way in and out of anything!!   Grin
