What a Race!!!! I always thought that I’m competing in a summer sport event. But this weekend it did not feel anything like it!!! Vancouver will host the 2010 winter Olympics, which I personally think is the right place.

Back to my event, the Triathlon Worldchampionships 2008. My main goal was to get as much points as possible and secure my olympic spot. I thought of a top 15 result but definitely not about a podium finish. But I had the chance, so I took it.

The swim started with two laps in the chilly 12c water. It was not my best performance but still enough to be in close contact with the first athletes out of the water and safe in the lead pack. Maybe my two weeks grown beard was the reason that I did not feel the cold so bad. For the Bike I did a lot of thinking in advance. All started with covering the airholes of my helmet with ducktape. Between my thermal short sleeve shirt and my race uniform I’ve placed a simple plastic bag to keep the 13c air away from cooling my body out. My toes were covered with a neoprene cap and I even wore bright yellow plastic gloves -exact the ones used to clean the toilet. I’ve might not have won a beauty contest, but I definitely felt comfortable warm a could have easy gone for another 40km. My worst thougt was to run with my helmet on, because I could not feel my fingers to open the buckel and my chin strap. With the fastest time in T2 I pushed the run from the beginning. When Xavier made his first move after 3km it was just Bevan and myself to try and go with him. It just lasted for another km till we both realised that he is running in a different league and we had to let him go. We also opened a gap to the runners behind us. Bevan kept pushing and I suffered badly. He pulled away and from behind was Hendrik closing the gap. He finally got me with 400m to go and I was just focusing on my sprint. I know I had one gear left and heard doc’s voice in my head. Just pick it up and don’t back off!!!! Thanks, I needed it!!! Done

My first Blog

Here i am sitting in front of my or better Nicolas Laptop and thinking what i could write on my blog. What is a blog anyway??? I am an officaly blogger now? If you told me that a few month back in time, I would have looked at you and did not have a clou what you meen. Not that has changed in anyways but I’m a blogger now!!! Ok so what can I do that is special on my one??? Im not good with words and I can not show you my dance moves so maybe I can teach you. Yes right teach….. we are all from different countries and we all speak just one language, ENGLISH. But I’m going to change that on my blog. I know some of your guys going to race in Europe and it might be helpful just to be able to speak a few words of German. Yes the proper one and not the crappy, bloody, no one is understanding Swissgerman were everyone can speak and write it like he wants. Just some simple sentences like how are you. Were is the next supermarket or can you tell me the way to the track!!!If you have any wishes ( I know big sexy got already on the advanced level…) let me know. Lets start with some simple words:

Mein Name ist Reto und ich schreibe hier meinen ersten Blog für das Forum. My Name is Reto and i’m writing my first blog for the forum.

Heute war mein erster Ruhetag seit ich hier auf den Philippinen bin. Today it has been my first day off since i’m here on the Philippines.
