The Animals and Dan are ready to Challenge themselves in Canada this weekend! It will be the first edition of the event as a Challenge race. In previous year's the race and venue were host to Ironman Canada. It will be exciting to see the Animals and Dan take on this iconic event but with a new twist. The course starts with a clean clear one loop lake swim, then moves onto the roads for a fast but rolling bike course that can be very windy over the last 40km. Then the run is an out and back course the rolls through town and out along one of the scenic lakes in the region. The team will face a small but strong field of contenders that include Macca and Chris Bagg on the men's side while on the women's side there is no one who should challenge Carrie.
Scottie reported in to say:
I will be heading to Penticton this weekend to race in the Challenge Penticton. I have always wanted to race the iconic course on the West Coast of Cananda. When it was announced it would be a Challenge Family event this year I quickly tried to work my year around the event so be a part of this inaugural event! I finally feel my fitness is coming around to the level I expect from myself. After a rough start to 2013 Ironman Lake Placid has put me back on track with my 6th place there last month. Since then I have recovered well and put in a good block of training at our base in Mountain City, TN. I expect to have a good day on Sunday! I am also keen to be on hand for our nutrition sponsor, Ignite Naturals, as they will be in Penticton with us to launch there new gel products so it will be a great weekend with them as well!!
Carrie told us:
I have had a really good training block since Lake Placid IM and naturally that gives me confidence going into the race on Sunday. My fitness is really coming along thanks to some solid training in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, and I plan to show it on Sunday. I am excited to be racing such an iconic course, even more so now Challenge has taken over. I love the atmosphere of their races. And for this race, I love the one lap bike course. I think it's going to be a beautiful place, and hopefully I can have some time to soak in the scenery:)
Dan also racing had a few words for us:
2013 has been the season of firsts for me. Since joining TBB I've done my first team camp and my first half ironman as a professional. Both of those firsts have been leading me to this weekend as I make my professional debut over the full distance where I hope to also enjoy a certain kind of "1st." but it wont be easy with strong competition from Team TBB teammate Scott DeFilippis as well as Chris McCormack and Chris Bragg. I'm excited to race over the historic Penticton Course and look forward to seeing how my training manifest over this new distance.
Best mechanical luck to the teamTBB crew! We hope to see you all on the podium this weekend!
