Jodie Swallow was Ironman Sweden Champion today, her first full Ironman championship title in a handful of attempts at the full distance.
Jodie led the entire male and female field out of the swim with a time of 48mins 30sec, which was 12 minutes faster than last year winner's Asa Lunstrom and made the intentions of Jodie very clear right from the start.
She never gave up the lead again and completed the 180km bike course in 4hrs 55mins (fastest pro women bike split of the day) to finish the marathon with a 3 hrs 6mins win the race in a total time of 8 hrs 54 mins some 23 mins ahead of her closest competitor Eva Nystrom who finished 2nd with a time of 9 hrs 17 mins ahead of Martin Britta who finished her race in a time of 9 hrs 22mins.
Jodie reported in right after her race:
Ecstatic to win my first Ironman victory in the lovely town of Kalmer in Sweden, the swim was rough and carnage, the bike was wild and windy and the run...was fine! - which is an improvement in itself. Seriously though, it means a lot to join James as a 'Ironman Champion' but I'm more proud of the way I won - Swallow style. Thanks to all the sponsors and the loved ones who make my dreams possible and also to Brett who makes my nightmares possible sometimes ;) ' Onwards and upwards now.
Jodie's performance today was of no surprise at all to the Doc, who messaged through:
Since the beginning of the season Jodie has been on a modified program for the sole purpose of building for full fitness for October. Last year she had some severe injury problems and so it has been the plan to build her condition not on the training track, but while racing. We could not be happier with her progress.
Jodie reconfirmed her readiness for Kona 2013 and from all of us at teamTBB, a big congrats to Jodie on her first full Ironman Championship!
